My most important task is to give a strategy to the institute for the next few years. The main mission of the ICIMSI is to support the regional and Swiss industries to be more competitive on the international and global market. Therefore we have to cooperate with international partners to develop products and processes that are innovative for our SMEs. Innovation is the winning way to compete for a country like Switzerland and it should be combined with a sustainability approach.
My experience in the Mass Customization paradigm as well as on the international R&D network brings the strategy to become a successful goal.

Interests and Experiences
I hold a Laurea in Mechanical Engineering from Politecnico of Torino and a Master and Ph.D. from Waterloo and Carleton University in Canada. I have been working for 16 years in Swiss industry and develop state of the art R&D in Metal Forming, Machine Tools CAD, CAM and CIM. I have taught Flexible Manufacturing as well as Robotic applications. Project Leader of EC research in the area of Mass Customization (MC) for shoe design and manufacturing (and published a book), I am now extending the MC paradigm concept to sustainability. I was Chairman of the IMS (Intelligent Manufacturing System) program and presently share my time as Director for R&D at the Swissnex (Swiss Outpost for Research, Education, Innovation and Culture) in Shanghai and Guangzhou, China
